The healing through Christian Science is accomplished...

The healing through Christian Science is accomplished by the Mind that was in Christ Jesus. This is quite a different matter from the use of the unpurified mortal mind, named by St. Paul the carnal mind, which is nothing else than will-power. Christian Scientists claim that Jesus proved that there is no death; that life is eternal. Our critic says, "Death is an enemy. It robs the heart and the home. Jesus never came to reconcile men to death." Paul said death was an enemy, but an enemy to be overcome. Jesus said, "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die," It was not necessary to reconcile men to death when its powerlessness was shown.

As the work of Christian Science is the healing and uplifting of humanity, which it is steadily accomplishing, the charge that it is a contagion can only refer to the epidemic of thought it has created in church-members, whereby, according to the consensus of opinion of a congress of ministers held a short time ago in New York city, the church-members are demanding a higher, more vital and practical religion, and they go outside, the church to find it. The works of Jesus were declared to be of Satanic origin, but that did not prevent him from continuing his compaign against Satan.

If Christianity is the truth as taught by Christ Jesus, then it is also Christian Science. If Christianity is the obeying of the commands of Jesus to heal the sick as well as to preach the gospel, in the way he healed and preached, then it is Christian Science. If Christianity is the following of the law of God, through the understanding of which all are lifted up to Him, overcoming sin and disease and dominating the material by the spiritual, then Christian Science is Christianity.
