We came into Christian Science about fourteen years...
We came into Christian Science about fourteen years ago through the healing of my mother, who had been an invalid for three years. I had been a delicate child all my life, never able to attend school through an entire term. After my mother was healed, I, too, was healed, by the reading of Science and Health, of a disease for which I had been treated by two physicians for over four years without the desired result. Since then we have never used material remedies, and I have been sick but very little. I finished my school work, began teaching, and taught for six consecutive years without losing a day on account of illness.
There have been so many demonstrations of the all-sufficiency of divine Love that I hardly know which to give. One morning, while teaching (I had just begun work), I fainted, and after I became conscious I began to declare the truth. Although my face seemed to be badly bruised, the blood was stanched, and I was at work again in a few minutes. I spent the time at recess in reading and declaring the allness of God. When I first began to teach school I met with much antagonism to Christian Science. I had retained my membership in an orthodox church, but that first year I had so much antagonistic thought to meet that I decided to obey the command, "Come ye out from among them." I had very little afterward to meet, and Love met that for me. Some time ago a stomach trouble appeared, but was destroyed under Christian Science treatment. I have been able to meet almost all these ailments for myself, and also been enabled to help others. Among the many ailments which have been overcome in Science in my mother's family, are rheumatic trouble, fever, etc., but in all of these divine Love met our every need.
For these many blessings I am indeed thankful, but even more so for the spiritual understanding which enables me to overcome bad temper, an irritable disposition, to do good to those who persecute me, and forgive those who speak evil of me. I am also thankful for the understanding of the allness of God, the supremacy of Spirit. This knowledge of God makes us happy in each day's blessings, and though sometimes error seems to rage, or have power, we can close our thought to it and realize God's omnipresence and omnipotence. As we do this, manifestations vanish into their native nothingness, leaving nothing but God, good. I give praise to God for His wonderful power and love, and to our beloved Leader for the spiritual life and Christlike character which enabled her to be the one through whom God might give us Science and Health, which is indeed a "Key to the Scriptures." I pray daily that I may prove my gratitude by walking in the footsteps of Truth and Love.
