THE LECTURES

The National Theater was filled yesterday afternoon [Dec. 13] with an audience which heard Bicknell Young of Chicago explain the teachings and operation of Christian Science in a forcible and scholarly effort. Mr. Young was introduced by H. Cornell Wilson, First Reader of the Christian Science church of this city, who said in his introduction:—

The purpose in this gathering is to hear presented so much of the teaching, practice, and salvation arrived at in Christian Science as will separate Christian Science in the minds of all present from every grotesque and abnormal concept which may heretofore have been entertained of it, and to enable the listener to consider Christian Science for what it really is viz., purely the revival in these days of the spiritual methods and wonderful practices of Christ Jesus and his early disciples. Those lives into which Christian Science has entered, to become a factor, give proof in each instance of the availability of this scientific Christianity for the overcoming of all forms of sin and of physical diseases; also the individual's spiritual awakening and regeneration. If Christian Science will do for mankind what logical deduction declares it will and must do, you and I cannot afford, on our account, nor in due consideration for the future of our race, to indulge this enervating mental influence termed prejudice.
