Thinking it may help or encourage some other seeker...

Thinking it may help or encourage some other seeker after Truth, as I have often been helped, I will tell of the healing of my ten-year-old boy of what the doctors termed a chronic skin disease. When he was but three months old, and when we were living in Newcastle, England, the disease first made its appearance. From then to the time of which I write, we followed every hygienic rule, and applied every home remedy or doctor's prescription we could hear of. It also became necessary to return to California, but the change of climate involved had no appreciable effect on his condition. The material remedies used seemed for a short time to relieve, but the trouble would persistently return, in worse form each time. One physician was frank enough to admit that it could not be cured, but only kept down by constant application of ointments. About this time, while on a visit to my mother, I casually picked up some copies of the Christian Science Sentinel which a friend had loaned her, as she was so far interested in the subject as to wish to understand more about it. Out of mere curiosity I began to read, and with deep interest I kept on. It seemed to throw a great search-light on our mortal existence, the mysteries of which had puzzled me much and which I had never been able to fathom.

Noting the testimonials of healing, at the first opportunity I sought a lady practitioner and asked her if my boy's case could be cured. She assured me that God does all things for us, but we must lay aside our old ways of thinking; and she kindly agreed to take the case. Soon after changing from the old to the new the manifestation became very alarming. Christian Science was still new and untried, and well meaning but misguided friends affirmed that the boy would lose all his hair. But for the continued reassurance of our practitioner that God does heal all our diseases and take away all our iniquities, I might have gone back to a remedy to "keep it down." However, to have gone back to the old beliefs would have been impossible. Even had the cure failed, I should have known the fault to be with us and not with Principle. After two and a half months of trusting in the promises, we were rewarded by a marked change for the better. The improvement continued steadily, till at the end of ten months the manifestation had entirely disappeared and the growth of hair was better than ever before.

It is needless to say we regard this healing as wonderful, though to divine Mind only natural. My husband, who had been in a neutral frame of mind concerning Science, was completely convinced when I told him what had done the good work. Every day we feel more gratitude to our Leader, who has shown the way out of bondage into the land of promise.—Della H. Gardner, Blue Lake, Cal.
