The News
No Christian Scientist with any knowledge of the subject would pretend to deny the reality of sin, sickness, and suffering as a part of the phenomena of human existence. They do affirm, however, in full accord with the teachings of Jesus, that these things are errors which must and shall be destroyed; that they are no part of the "very good" creation of God; but that they are the result of our failure to know God aright. They further contend that ultimately even death, "the last enemy," shall be destroyed. That this has not as yet been accomplished in Christian Science is no argument against the effort to destroy sin and disease, death's procurers. Jesus referred to the woman whom Satan had bound as having been in bondage to that which he defined as "a lie" or deception, and through the process described by him as "knowing the truth" she was made free from the claims of this Satan—the deception.
It is not my desire to utilize your pages for the propagation of the doctrines of Christian Science, but it is my duty, founded on justice and equity, to correct in a tolerant and Christian manner any misstatements, whether intentional or accidental. The public press, almost without exception, recognizes the merit of this position and is glad to cooperate with us.
