Christian Scientists to-day are gaining the same conviction...
Hawick (Scotland) News
Christian Scientists to-day are gaining the same conviction that Elijah gained; they are learning that God is not to be found in storm and tempest, the relentless forces of a mysterious world; but that the "still, small voice" of Truth may still be heard, speaking to the human consciousness. They understand that God is Spirit, Mind, intelligence, and that He can only be spiritually discerned. Christian Science is teaching them how to worship in spirit and in truth; how to pray to the Father in secret, with the confident expectation of an answer; how to find Him an ever-present help in time of trouble. It declares that God is infinite; and by this it means, not that God is in matter, but that God, being good, is infinitely good, always and altogether good; infinitely wise and infinitely powerful, and that there is no time, nor place, nor condition where the goodness of God is not available to man. It teaches that St. John gave the best definition of God when he said, "God is love;" and that Jesus demonstrated the power of the God who is Love, when he stilled the storm and raised the dead. Christian Scientists understand that the conflicting forces of the material world are the outcome of the carnal mind, or mind of the flesh, which St. Paul declares is enmity against God; and they are learning how to range themselves on the side of good against all evil, their constant endeavor being to overcome evil with good. They believe the time will come, as Isaiah foretold, when "the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."
