I became interested in Christian Science about two years...
I became interested in Christian Science about two years ago. For about ten years previous to that time I had suffered with a complication of diseases, during which time I was almost constantly under the care of physicians until it seemed to me that I had worn out all material remedies and I did not know what to do. I was in this condition when Christian Science was presented to me by a friend. At first I would not have anything to do with it, and was annoyed at having it mentioned to me, though I knew very little about it. This friend said that she had some of the literature which she would loan me to read, and as I had always been very fond of reading, out of curiosity to see what it was like I accepted some Sentinels and Journals. The first article I read was in Sentinel, and I shall never forget the feeling I experienced. I knew I had found the religion for which I had been searching all my life; that at last I had something I could hold to forever, and which would always satisfy me. It was a perfect revelation to me, and it seemed too good to be true. One of the first statements that appealed to me was this: "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." I seemed to realize what this meant, and I felt like a new person. I discarded all medicine, nor have I taken any since that time. In a short time I was able to walk and to do things that I never before thought I could do.
About a month afterwards a copy of Science and Health was loaned me by a practitioner, and I have never ceased to be grateful for this kindness. Soon after this I was able to purchase a copy for myself, and through the study of this book, together with the aid of a practitioner, who is always ready and willing to help me whenever I need it, I have been able to "meet every adverse circumstance as its master" (Science and Health, p. 419). From childhood I had been troubled with weak eyes; at times they were so bad that I could not look at anything without suffering. I wore glasses of different kinds, but they did not relieve me. Christian Science has healed me of this trouble. I laid aside my glasses shortly after becoming interested, and have since used my eyes constantly without any difficulty. I also suffered terribly from stomach trouble, and would sometimes go without food because I was afraid to eat. This also has been overcome, and now I eat whatever I want to, knowing that it cannot hurt me.
Christian Science is helping me to overcome fear and a sense of limitation. I am indeed grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for this wonderful truth that makes us free.
