Mankind has heard enough of theory, dogma, and...
Charles City (Ia.) Intelligencer
Mankind has heard enough of theory, dogma, and creed, and the thought of humanity is rapidly turning towards a more practical and satisfactory message of hope and salvation than its past experience has grasped. Christian Science holds out these promises of surcease from woe, from discord, disease, and sin; and because it has fulfilled its promises is a good and sufficient reason for its wonderful growth and success as a religious teaching.... The question to-day is not, what do you preach, or what creed do you accept, but the earnest desire is to know whether the preaching is practical and whether adequate results consistent with the teachings of Scripture, and especially those of Jesus Christ with reference to the salvation of the sick man and the sinner, are produced. I have studied the text-book of Christian Science for fifteen years, and previous to beginning its study I had ten years' active experience in an orthodox church. I find in the teachings of Christian Science nothing that conflicts in any degree with the fundamental teachings of Christianity. My experience with Christian Scientists is that they are a devout, prayerful, earnest, Christian people,—good citizens and safe religionists. They do not claim to have as yet the complete understanding of all that Christian Science includes, and consequently have in isolated instances been unable to prove that of which Christian Science is capable.
