In Christian Science healing human will is silenced and the despotic and harmful influence of one human mind over another is entirely eschewed, while the wholesome influence of truth, imparted to the sick in Jesus' way, soothes and uplifts the individual, making him better physically by uplifting him morally. Our critic assumes a big task when he essays to duplicate the healing achieved in Christian Science by the mere exercise of hypnotic influence, and he thereby places himself in the unenviable position of the Egyptian astrologers whose jugglery was finally "swallowed up of Moses' rod," which typified the staff of spiritual understanding and consequent power.
