Gratitude urges me to tell what peace and blessing have...
Gratitude urges me to tell what peace and blessing have come to me through the study of Christian Science. A sister advised me to read Mrs. Eddy's "little book," "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and I found it offered so much that I was glad when the opportunity came, to attend services and testimony meetings at First Church of Christ, Scientist, in London. The joy and gratitude there expressed overcame prejudice, and the proofs of divine healing were made clear. From that time, three years ago, Christian Science has been a true comfort in sorrow and a guide to a fuller and truer knowledge of God; it has brought a change in consciousness, as from darkness to bright sunlight. A visit to Boston for the dedication of The Mother Church in 1906 brought a wonderful sense of the kingdom of heaven on earth. I can never be grateful enough for the privilege of being a member of that Church and of having been present at that service and the meeting of church members. I am glad and thankful also to belong to the organized band in this country whose aim it is to follow the guidance of our Leader, as given in the Manual of The Mother Church.
I am very grateful for many physical blessings, also for relief from fear, anxiety, worry, and fatigue. Headache, from which I had suffered all my life, has been cured; an attack of rheumatic trouble, which seemed very painful, was healed in a few days by treatment; injury to the head from a fall was overcome in three days by reading Science and Health. Two years ago a decayed tooth began to break away, and the dentist said it was too far gone to have more filling done. After realizing that God's will means perfection in every detail, the pain ceased, the tooth began to feel sound, and has remained so ever since. Many lesser ailments, such as seasickness and colds, have also been cured. For all these blessings I am deeply grateful to God, divine Love, "who healeth all thy diseases;" and to Mrs. Eddy, who has led us to divine Love.
How can words express the love and gratitude we owe to our Leader for her self-sacrifice and courage in facing the same hatred and opposition which crucified our Master, Christ Jesus. His victory, as the Wayshower, made it possible for her to give to humanity this great truth of divine healing, which she has discovered, and which she has proved and taught others to prove. Her own words best express what her life is to her followers, "The spiritual glow and grandeur of a consecrated life wherein dwelleth peace" (Preface to Miscellaneous Writings). This influence has radiated to every civilized land, and more than a million people "rise up and call her blessed." It is real happiness to be one of this great and growing army who rejoice in the truth. It is my earnest desire to express my love and gratitude by so overcoming sin and self as to make real in daily experience that Spirit is the only reality, that God is good, and God is All, and that God is Love.
