[Written for the Sentinel.]

"THY KINGDOM COME."

"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done."
Forgive us, Lord, that once we prayed
This prayer of Thine, while still we laid
To Thee the ills that bound each one!

On earth as 'tis in heaven—and yet
In heaven no tears, no death, no pain!
Then why on earth? We prayed in vain,—
With trembling lips and sad eyes wet,—
Because we knew Thee not aright.

We know Thee better now. We see
Thy will on earth is harmony;
And faith grows slowly into sight.
