Truth, to be of practical value, must be understood

Portland (Me.) Advertiser

Truth, to be of practical value, must be understood. Truth cannot be demonstrated by those who are "unthinking and credulous." who simply "believe it to be all true." Christian Science is a truth to be lived, not merely believed. It is the religion of Christ Jesus, and, as of old, includes naturally the healing of sickness as well as of sin. It is not a "new school of medicine," nor "a treatment without medicine." It teaches us to turn to God as a "very present help in trouble." ...

Our critic asks the question, "If 'with God all things are possible,' then why is it not possible for Him to restore to health, and prolong life, and relieve seeming pain; indeed, to abolish all evidences of disease and pain, if He be asked in the proper frame of mind and with abundant faith?" I can only reply that there is no reason why it is not possible, and we shall have to know that all things are possible with Him, before the "greater works" spoken of in the Scripture can be accomplished.
