When Mrs. Eddy first made known to the world her great discovery of the scientific Christ-healing, the orthodox world said the days of miracles had passed, and that to claim they had not was not in accord with Bible teaching, although Mrs. Eddy claimed that her method was in accord with Jesus' spiritual healing. Since then many articles have been written, attempting to credit others with this great discovery. Now, some of the religious bodies are trying to incorporate mental healing, claiming that it is "keyed to the Lord and Master's teaching,' thus virtually admitting their former judgments to have been incorrect. This method of combining drugs and mental suggestion, when compared with Christ's method of healing, or Christian Science, is as darkness compared to light.

Jesus never used drugs in any form to heal the sick. He never healed a case of sickness, cast out a devil, or raised the dead with a drug or through mental suggestion. His medicine was Truth, the word of God. The psalmist says, "He sent his word, and healed them." The word of Truth is not the false belief in the power of inert matter or drugs, nor in the suggestion of the human mind or human will, but it is an understood Principle, that needs no boosting or bolstering by drugs or human will. Jesus said, when he raised Lazarus from the dead, "Father, . . . I knew that thou hearest me always," thus proving that he understood divine Mind, or Principle, and its law and action. . . . Said Jesus, "Not my will, but thine, be done." Said Paul, "The carnal mind [human mind and will] is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." Again, Paul said, "The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." This "sword of the Spirit," the "word of God," separates the carnal mind, with its erroneous will-power and suggestion, from the divine Mind or will, and through divine law operates to heal and to save. . .

Christian Science is knocking at the door of the present age with a divine message; it does not ask any one to accept its teachings or practise its methods because Mrs. Eddy has discovered it, named it, and practises it, but because it is the unfolding in human consciousness of a demonstrable Principle, — demonstrable because it is true, and true because it is demonstrable. Those who find fault with it and condemn it are not those who understand it. Only those who are trying to climb up some other way call it nonsense. If those who wish to teach and practise the absolutely correct method of mental healing would lay aside their false estimate of Mrs. Eddy, and be just and fair to her, and study the text-book of Christian Science, Science and Health, without prejudice, they would find the true understanding of mental or spiritual healing, as demonstrated by Jesus; nonsense would be put aside, and the true sense, the spiritual sense, would be revealed, and right and justice would be done both Discoverer and those taught.
