Ottumwa (Ia.) Review
It must be patent to all thinking people that every movement touching the welfare of humanity must stand or fall absolutely upon the basis of its merits or demerits. This applies to what is termed the science of medicine and to Christian Science. Christian Science is now recognized as an established religious faith, because it has been proven to be an important factor in the healing of the sick, the overcoming of the many discordant conditions incidental to humanity, and in the regeneration and reformation of the sinner. Christian Scientists do not decry the work of physicians or their attempts to alleviate suffering. They recognize and appreciate the honesty of the better class of physicians and respect their endeavors; therefore they make no attempt to stir up prejudice against the work of said physicians. At the same time they insist upon their individual right to employ such means as have been proved to them to be most efficacious.
In is a notable fact that a large majority of the people who come to Christian Scientists for help are those who have run the gamut of medical experience and have failed to find healing. To these people Christian Science offers a hope of surcease from their sickness and distress. That this hope has been justified is abundantly proved in the practical experience of those who have embraced the healing ministry of Christian Science. If the Bible teaches anything of a positive nature, it is that the power of God is equal to every emergency and necessity. Christian Scientists rely upon this one power, having proved by practical experience that the words of the psalmist are true: "He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions." In proportion as Christian Science becomes better known, the intrinsic value of its healing ministry is being more clearly recognized and understood for what it really is, and mankind are finding less in its teachings to antagonize and more to appreciate and respect.
