Two years ago I knew nothing about Christian Science

Two years ago I knew nothing about Christian Science. At that time I was suffering from stomach trouble. For two years I had been trying to be healed by the use of material medicines and following the physicians' advice to refrain from eating various kinds of food; but notwithstanding my efforts, I became no better. I could not eat food nor even drink cold water without suffering. At this time I met a friend, a well-known business man of New Haven, and in the course of conversation I told him my tale of woe. He then told me of his great interest in and appreciation of Christian Science, but although I was interested, I was not quite ready to take up this new treatment. Well do I remember my friend's last statement at that time. He said, "When you get tired of doctors and medicines, come and see me again."

I kept on faithfully with my medicine about a year, then I was ready to return to my friend and ask for Christian Science. I had paid quite a sum of money for medical treatment, and my friend, to test my sincerity (as I afterwards learned), asked me if I would be willing to pay one hundred dollars to be cured. I replied that I would. He sent me to a practitioner, to whom I applied for treatment, and in answer to my question I was told that I could eat anything I wished. I discontinued the use of material medicine, and from that day to this I have eaten what I desired without suffering. I was treated two weeks, and instead of paying a hundred dollars I paid ten.

Through the study of Christian Science I have been able to demonstrate the healing power of Truth. For my physical healing, for my new understanding of God, and for all the blessings of Christian Science, I am grateful to God, and also to Mrs. Eddy, the messenger of Truth to this age.—Henry F. Baumgardt, Highwood, Conn.
