The prayer of faith which heals the sick in Christian Science...
Commercial Appeal
The prayer of faith which heals the sick in Christian Science, is as far from the occult as the poles. It is the prayer of spiritual understanding, according to Paul's admonition, and relies solely upon the power of God for the healing. . . . As Jesus continually affirmed that he healed by the power of Spirit, God, it is plain that those who, according to history, healed the sick in his name for about three centuries healed spiritually, and this healing could only have been lost through the growing materialism of the age. Then why should it be expected that the spiritual truth which destroys material error and heals the sick and sinful should conform to preconceived material beliefs. . . . Nothing can be plainer to one thoroughly instructed in this Science than the fact that God is not the creation, but the creator; that he is Spirit, and His creation spiritual. God is not the universe, and the universe is not God but His spiritual manifestation. God is divine Principle, Love, the omnipotent, omnipresent, infinite intelligence or Mind which underlies and supports all creation. . . . Mrs. Eddy's writings pay tribute to and exalt our Lord's character, and only prejudiced misapprehension of her meaning can gain any other idea from her teachings. Through the practical application of her teachings one can prove the Master's word to be true, and thus he comes not merely to believe that Christ is his Saviour because the Bible says so, but because he knows it, since he proves it. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Free from what? Plainly error, sin, disease. Surely this exalts the Saviour's character more than words could possibly do.
