I take pleasure in giving my reason for joining the Christian Science Church. Having been a subscriber to McClure's magazine since it was started, I was much interested in the announcement that, beginning with the January, 1907, issue, a fair, true (?), and unbiased biography of Mrs. Eddy and the history of Christian Science was to be published. I read the first four issues, finding the most intense bias against Mrs. Eddy without one single redeeming feature. I then decided to investigate somewhat from the other side. During the month of June I spent from two to three hours of each day in the library of the Christian Science Church. I there read and studied almost everything relating to Christian Science, from Mrs. Eddy's works—"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Retrospection and Introspection," "Miscellaneous Writings," etc.—down to the various tracts of the Publishing Society, and I could not help but convinced that Mrs. Eddy's conception of the religion taught by Jesus Christ was the only true and logical one. From this reading of Christian Science literature I became convinced that Mrs. Eddy was being grossly maligned, and I felt that such treatment of this grand woman should arouse my sincerest sympathy, as it should that of every honest man and woman. I then put to the test my own faith in God, as understood in Christian Science, although I had never before thought of Christian Science from a physical standpoint, with reference to myself. I had, however, worn glasses for the past thirty-five years, being unable to recognize any one across the street without them. While sitting in the library one day, studying Science and Health, it seemed to me that if I had sufficient faith in God, I did not need glasses. Thereupon I removed my glasses, and have put them on but once since, and then only to find that I could see better without them. I left them off about June 20. I trust it may be my privilege to help the Cause of Christian Science.—C. A. Vera, Minneapolis, Minn.
