GOD'S WILL

One of the great joys experienced by a Christian who acquires even a slight understanding of Christian Science, comes from the knowledge gained concerning the will of God towards man. In his past Christian career the words of the Lord's Prayer, "Thy will be done," have many times been associated with the sorrowful experiences of human life. When the clouds of grief and disappointment have seemingly shut out the light of heaven; when death has separated him from loved ones, he has been taught to say, "Thy will be done." Christian Science teaches him that God is not the author of sickness and death, and that God sends nothing but good to His children, and that whatever comes into his own experience which is not good, comes not from God. The petition no longer expresses submission to the seemingly inevitable calamities of life; rather does it voice the truth which destroys them.

Our dear Leader has lovingly labored to lead mankind up to the spiritual heights where the will of God is known to be tender, loving, and omnipotent, destructive of nothing but evil. Faithfully has she pointed out to us, as our example, the life of Jesus the Christ, who more than any other man most lived and loved the will of God. Because of this he did more than any other man towards the final destruction of all that is unlike God,—unlike that which God wills. He exposed the fear-producing lies that have entered the human consciousness disguised as angels of light, and proved them false and powerless.

What peace and comfort come to one in realizing that it is not God's will that man should suffer and be sorrowful. What an incubus it removes to know that sin, disease, and death have no place in God's universe and that their seeming dominion can be and is being destroyed by a right understanding of Truth. When God's will is realized fully and loved supremely,—when all men have one will, and that the divine,—sin, sickness, and death will have passed forever from the experience of mankind. For this glorious accomplishment our Saviour taught us to pray, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
