For several years I was subject to nervous hysterical...

For several years I was subject to nervous hysterical attacks, and was treated for this distressing condition by a good physician. The tendency did not, however, disappear with the lapse of time, nor through drugs or change of climate and scene. When I came to Alabama, after the San Francisco earthquake, another cause for those spells was found in the fear occasioned by thunder-storms, for having been brought up in San Francisco, I was entirely unaccustomed to such phenomena, and they affected me most unpleasantly. I had previously been interested in Christian Science, first through my married sister, who had found it a great help for herself and her little girl, and then through Christian Science friends whom I found here, and through attending the services of the little church. At last I decided to take treatment from a practitioner, more with the desire of gaining a better understanding of the subject than with the expectation of being relieved of my physical distress. I am glad to say that both objects were accomplished, as was inevitable. I now am not afraid of thunder-storms, instead of taking to my bed in a nervous spell induced by fear, while the other apparent causes of the hysterical trouble have likewise ceased to produce any effect. I have been able to overcome resentment when provoked thereto, and I am very happy in the sense of a greater freedom from fear than I have ever before experienced. All this I owe to Christian Science, and I am very grateful to our dear Leader for that wonderful book, Science and Health, and to God for leading me in a way I knew not. I should like to say that I was treated by the dear practitioner but a short time,—only two or three weeks. This was two months ago, and the trouble has not returned.—Harriet Jones, Mobile, Ala.
