I do not feel that my whole duty has been fulfilled in...
I do not feel that my whole duty has been fulfilled in giving an acknowledgment of what Christian Science has done for me at our Wednesday evening meeting, but that I should acknowledge it through the columns of the Sentinel that it may encourage others who are seeking this healing truth. I turned to Christian Science two years ago, when all hope was gone that materia medica could reach my case. When taken with the severe pains my only relief at that time was morphine, and I would be from one to two days in a stupor after taking this drug. I had two severe surgical operations; the doctors stating at the last one that if I lived I would be an invalid the rest of my life; and that I would perhaps live only one year. I also had very weak eyes and wore glasses, but I knew that if Christian Science could heal one disease it could heal all, and I laid my glasses aside and have never worn them since. I had heard of Christian Science but thought it could not help me, though several friends at that time were healed through this truth. I saw that they had something I did not possess, and I asked them how they knew so much about Christian Science. They said they studied it, and I replied, "So do I;" but they could see at a glance that I was simply reading with doubt in my thought. It then came to me that I really needed this truth and that the truth would make me free. I had several attacks of the former ailment; with the most excruciating pain, and it was then that the words of Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health came to me, "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs" (Science and Health, p. 393). In about half an hour the pain ceased, and although for about three months it would occasionally manifest itself, each time the pain was less. This was two years ago, and I can say with truth and honesty that I am a well woman today! I am grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, for my healing and for the understanding of this truth, and for the spiritual uplifting that came with it. Through my small understanding, and in knowing that I am governed by God, I have been able to heal the sick and reform the sinner. I am learning to realize that God, divine Love, is supreme, and is a present help in all times of need.
Mrs. Anna M. Barker, St. Joseph, Mo.
