Christian Scientists heal the sick by realizing the nothingness...

Butte (Mont.) Inter Mountain

Christian Scientists heal the sick by realizing the nothingness of disease and the allness of God,—through an understanding of God's law, and the intelligent application of this understanding. The teachings of Christian Science indicate no faith in disease. It would not be said that a mathematician had faith in mistakes because he pointed out to his student the mistake in his problem. In a like manner it cannot be said of Mrs. Eddy that she has faith in the results of mental malpractice because she points out its workings in order that it may be destroyed.

Mental malpractice means wrong mind action, or the wrong use of the human mentality. Divine Mind, which is spiritual and good, is not susceptible of misuse. The carnal (mortal) mind, as Paul puts it, "is enmity against God," and is constantly co-operating with all that is human, material, devilish. Thus it behooves one to have in him the Mind which was in Christ Jesus in order to overcome the material, temporal. Of course it is generally admitted that the spiritual will ultimately triumph. Mrs. Eddy shows us, however, that by the application of the teachings of Christian Science a cessation of sin, disease, and death, and a realization of harmony can be reached.
