"GOD IS REALLY ALL"

Boston, Mass., Dec. 2, 1907.

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—A short time ago it was my privilege to entertain a clergyman from Scotland. He was of the good old sort, his heart beating with love for God and all mankind. He had read your book Science and Health through forty times, but was a little hazy on a few points, namely, the atonement, the unreality of evil, and the idea of a personal Saviour. After two days' visit, during which time I introduced him to some of your editors and students, I was able to bring to his consciousness the scientific fact which you have made plain, namely, that God is really all. As the allness of God, good, dawned on his thought, his face lighted up with the joy of understanding. Seeing this point of course settled all his questions. He was over-joyed to feel, and was able to appreciate, the high, true, spiritual tone of those whom he met here. He was quite ready to accept the healing. He told me that on the first reading of Science and Health he saw from the standpoint of the original Greek and Hebrew that your interpretation of the Scripture was absolutely correct. As I have said, he is of the old style of Christians, fully believing the Bible and the works of the Master. One thing he could not understand was why you called Christian Science "the higher criticism." He associated "the higher criticism" with the works of those who belittled and practically denied the works of Jesus. I tried to show him that your "higher criticism" consisted in proving the truth of the Scriptures by doing the same works to-day as were done by the Master and his disciples. thus supplying the "missing link" of proof. I hope this explanation will meet with your approval.

My wife and I are happy in our work of Christian Science healing. It is with meek thanks we can report to you that through our ministry we have healed various ailments. both physical and moral. What you have personally done for us, we can never express in words. Your work has healed us and given us nearly twenty years of happiness and usefulness. With much love. Yours faithfully,
William Lloyd.
