HEALED BY CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

Indianapolis, Ind., July 1, 1907. Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy, Concord, N. H.

My dear Leader and Teacher:—I have not had the pleasure of seeing you face to face, or of knowing you as many have known and do know you. I wish, however, in some way and measure to express my appreciation of your loving service to mankind, which has touched me and mine in a most beneficent manner, healing all our diseases through the Word of Truth and the power of Love divine, as taught by you in Science and Health, which has indeed proven to be a "Key to the Scriptures," for through its reading I have been healed of nasal catarrh of forty years' standing, upon which I had spent hundreds of dollars for medical treatment. Three and a half years ago I was healed of what two prominent physicians called inflammatory rheumatism, which so affected my whole body as to make me entirely helpless. While growing steadily worse, and being told that I could not expect to get back to my office for thirty or sixty days, I dismissed the doctors, called in one of your students, and with her help I was perfectly healed within a week. I have had no occasion to ask for help but once since, which was for a sense of pain coming from a broken rib. This was healed by two absent treatments and without the loss of an hour of time.

It may surprise you to learn that the writer is not a member of a Christian Science church, but is yet a Methodist in name. I assure you, however, that I am, and could not help being, a better Methodist through having read your books and periodicals. The problems which seem to bar the way to our uniting with a Christian Science church are working out beautifully, and evidently will work out for us great good. These are such good things to report, but transcending them by celestial diameters are the spiritual gifts,—the quickened sense of God as Life, Truth, and Love; the keener perception of and discernment of the Word, which "is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword. ... a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart," which truth every true Scientist has demonstrated by your prescribed rules. I thank my God, through Jesus Christ, that this revelation has come to you, and through you to the world. I thank you for your life of unfeigned love, manifested in the fruits you bear, and may the God whom you serve sustain you in every hour of trial, and enable you to demonstrate fully and perfectly the omnipotence of Love; not to put to rout your enemies, but to win them for God's kingdom instead.
