A leading feature of Jesus' message is the kingdom of God and its coming. "The kingdom is within you," he taught. And that kingdom is righteousness, joy, peace, brotherly kindness, love. The kingdom of heaven, then, is a state of mind and character. It is not a far-off city, to which after death we journey. The kingdom of heaven is enthroned in man's soul. It is the life of God in man, producing righteousness, love, peace, joy. The Christian who has within him this kingdom of heaven will love what Christ loves and whom Christ loves—the child, the publican, the prodigal, the poor, the broken-hearted. He will love the deeds Christ did, and will try to do them. Such is Christianity as taught by Jesus Christ.
