[Written for the Sentinel.]

"THY LOVING-KINDNESS"

Because Thy loving-kindness
Is better far than life;
Because my helper Thou hast been
In many a bitter strife;
Because Thy love restrains from paths
Where sin and fear are rife;
In Thee, O True and Tried!
"My soul is satisfied."

Because when thirsty Thou dost lead
To Truth's life-giving springs;
Because when hungry bread from heav'n
The Comforter still brings;
Because when weary I may rest
Beneath Love's sheltering wings;
In Thee, O True and Tried!
"My soul is satisfied."

Because when in Thy Presence
No mortal foes affright;
Because when error blinds me
Thou dost restore my sight;
Because my weakness is sustained
By God's own power and might;
In Thee, O True and Tried,
"My soul is satisfied."
