I desire to testify for the help of others to what Christian Science has done for me. After about four years of miserable suffering and several extended nervous breakdowns from supposed overwork, I found myself in an alarming condition, so diagnosed by physicians, including two specialists. I was sent to a hospital, where I spent four weeks in great misery.

I had been reading Science and Health for a couple of months and really wanted to try Christian Science, but was so filled with fear that I could see no way of getting along without materia medica. I had, however, much help at this time from a friend who was in Science. One Sunday I went to the Christian Science church and got along better that day than before. Soon after this I went to a practitioner and told her that I had decided to drop the medicines, although with much foreboding as to the results, and that I wished treatments. I considered it quite a demonstration to have reached this beginning. From that time I improved continuously. It is impossible for me to express in words the mighty influence which worked in me to overcome my sense of no control, and which gradually brought me back to a normal condition. I was formerly filled with fear and worry and had no thought of going to God, divine Principle, for help. I had been advised not to go back to office work, and of course I had an unreasonable fear of it.

It is now just a year since I took my first treatment. My trouble has almost entirely disappeared and I have been at office work seven months. I know that several physicians believed I would not get over my sickness, and the following words of my last physician, a thoroughly experienced and competent specialist, for whom I have a high regard and an appreciation of his care and consideration, I consider a fitting expression for a testimony in Christian Science. He said, "I am much elated at your recovery; your case is one in a hundred thousand, but you had it in you to get over this." I know that these are only outward manifestations of what I have gained in spiritual growth, and others as well as myself may increase their understanding of this truth which our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has shown us through her deeds, as well as in Science and Health and her numerous other writings.
