THE LECTURES
CRIPPLE CREEK, COL.
Judge Septimus J. Hanna lectured on Christian Science at Cripple Creek, Col., July 22. He was introduced by Charles Walden of Victor, who said in part:—
I stand here before you as one who has tested Christian Science in his domestic life and in his business, and always found it a great benefit and never wanting. I desire to say it is my sincere conviction that Christian Science is the religion of truth, based and built upon the rock Christ. No matter what a man has been, no matter how forlorn, friendless, and hopeless he has become, he finds his true self again in Christian Science. If I had to state briefly what Christian Science is, I would say it is simply the teachings of Jesus put into practice. There is nothing new in Christian Science: it is but the discovery of the truth our Master taught. It is the light which lighteth all men. It is the religion which appeals to business men, which gives them rest, comfort, and peace and shows them that it is not only possible but profitable to apply the Golden Rule in all our affairs, under all circumstances, all conditions, at all times, and in all ways. It is the religion that gives to all mankind, health, peace, harmony, happiness, and prosperity.—Correspondence.
FABYAN'S, N. H.
The music room of The Mount Pleasant was filled Sunday afternoon [Aug. 19] with an appreciative audience to listen to a lecture by Mrs. Sue Harper Mims of Atlanta, Ga., on Christian Science. It was the annual lecture given under the auspices of the White Mountain Christian Science Church, worshiping in the little church near the White Mountain House. Mr. George H. Moore of Boston, Second Reader of the White Mountain Church, opened the meeting in the following words:—
The message of Christian Science, like that of every sound presentation of Christian truth, is simply the story of God's good will to man. The teachings of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this Science, have, however, this unique distinction: they insist on the fact that God's love is an available, demonstrable power in which men may find cure for every conceivable form of distress which disfigures human life; and the history of the Christian Science movement verifies this declaration. It records a constantly growing demonstration of the tremendous possibilities of this larger faith in God when directed by a scientific understanding of God's law. The promise of Christian Science is to any man who seeks its help and who brings diligence and sincerity of purpose to bear on the study and application of its teachings.
Our lecturer this afternoon is a much-honored and loved member of the official Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. Her rich experience in Christian Science work and her broad understanding of its Principle enable her to speak with authority and entitle her to your most thoughtful attention.
