I was in poor health for ten years and under a doctor's care constantly. My physician said I had a complication of disease,—uterine, kidney, and stomach trouble, etc. Finally I had a severe attack of fever and a doctor called every day, but I was no better. A friend then spoke to me of Christian Science. She had been healed by it, but I was not yet ready for it. I consulted another doctor and he advised me to go to a hospital and submit to an operation after he had built me up. I took the medicine for six weeks, then went to a hospital and had the operation performed. After five weeks I returned home, but was not able to do anything. The doctor told me to remain quiet for three months. I obeyed his orders, but as soon as I began to work all my ailments came back and I was soon as ill as ever. The doctor then said a slight operation would be necessary every three months. To this I would not submit and made up my mind to die.
At this time some Christian Science literature was sent to me. I read it but did not understand it. When the Scientist called upon me she reassured me, telling me that if I would get the book Science and Health and read it carefully, I would soon understand it and get well. I procured a copy, began reading, and became so interested that I could scarcely stop. I would read to my husband and say, "I know it is true," and I began to feel free and happy for the first time in years. I went to church, and read the text-book faithfully. My troubles all disappeared gradually and I have been well and happy for five years, able to do the work for a family of twenty with the assistance of one girl.
Several have been brought to Science through my healing. When my husband saw it he began to attend the services, and now we have both been members of the Christian Science church for three years. We are truly filled with gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for the teaching of Science and Health.
