Boston Times
It is stated in the Scriptures that God visits the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Him, and that He shows mercy unto thousands that love Him and "keep" His "commandments."
This Scripture hints that the human law of heredity will exist until overcome by Love. Christian Science inspires the keeping of the commandment, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart," and "thy neighbor as thyself," through its comprehensive definition of the nature and essence of Deity. If parents are afflicted, it is not by reason of any divine law, but because they are not sufficiently awake to a realization of the divine protection; because through ignorance or carelessness they fail to break the material law of discord and fail to claim their God-given rights to health and harmony.
It was the mission of Jesus to demonstrate possibility of spirituality and health, and it is the mission of Christian Science to accomplish the same result. If children partake of the discordant bodily and mental conditions of their parents, these can and must be destroyed through the understanding of truth, the divine law which deals with disease by destroying it. Evidently Jeremiah saw this possibility when he said, "In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge; but every one shall die for his own iniquity."
