I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...

I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. Though I have not risen above all my ills, I am greateful for what I have overcome. In 1893 I was invalided from the army, having been found medically unfit for further service, and from that time till the year 1901 I was constantly under the care of doctors. I also tried almost all the remedies that I saw advertised, but all to no avail, and I gradually grew worse. During this time I joined an orthodox church, and there they told me it was God's will that I should be afflicted, that it was to try my faith, and that I should be all right when I got to heaven. I could not tell any one what kind of a God I used to believe in, but I know it was not the God who is Love. At this time the Bible was my chief companion. I read it through and through, but could not think that all the promises were for me, and nothing but Christian Science has given me a right understanding of the Bible. At that time my sight failed, so that I could not read; then I became desperate and began to say hard things about God. I had lost the use of my hands, too. Then a dear friend gave me a copy of Science and Health. I had never heard of Christian Science, so I could no have much faith in a thing I knew nothing about. I was, however, willing to try anything that was recommended to me, and this friend told me a little about Christian Science; so I tried to read the book, and in a fortnight I could see to read and have been able to do so ever since, though to mortal sense my eyes were bad. I had my eyes tested, but glasses were of no assistance. The tobacco habit in which I had indulged over twenty years, both smoking and chewing, and which I had tried to give up several times, was speedily overcome; in fact, I always say I did not give it up; this time it gave me up, for the time came when I did not want tobacco any more. Words fail me to express my gratitude to our Leader. I can but make one frank statement and say, Thank you, dear Mrs. Eddy, for what you have done for me and for all the world. My prayer is that I may in turn help others.
