I began the study of Christian Science twelve years ago, hoping to be healed of hereditary paralysis of long-standing, and was also anxious to learn how to read my Bible understandingly. From infancy I had been treated for extreme lameness. Electricity had been used, surgeons had operated on a crooked foot for drawn cords, and liniments had been applied to cause a better circulation, as the limb was cold and diminishing in size. It ached much of the time, and I had no control of the ankle. I used a brace that extended above the knee, with an ankle support inside the shoe. I also used a cane.

In 1893 I began the study of Christian Science, and had treatment. I soon laid aside the brace and cane, the limb became warm, and the aching was entirely overcome. My healing has been seemingly slow, but I know I gain strength as I gain spiritual understanding. For eight years I have lived on a cattle ranch in North Dakota, many miles from any Christian Scientist, and I find great comfort in the study of Christian Science.
