I feel it my duty to relate a few of the many blessings I...
I feel it my duty to relate a few of the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. Four years ago, when I sought Christian Science, I was a wreck, both physically and mentally. From a child I had doctored with the best physicians in the city where I was then living, and had taken various taking Christian Science treatment. I was under the care of a physician, suffering from indigestion, catarrh of the stomach, and liver trouble. At the end of this period I was in a worse condition than ever. I had lost faith in material remedies, I was seemingly without hope and without God in the world, thinking my only relief would be the grave. I was in darkness and despair, and my mother and friends were afraid I would lose my mind. I had always believed in a God, and was a member of an orthodox church, but since gaining some understanding of Christian Science I find that my former concept of God was very limited. I formerly believed God to be in some far-off place; and to trust Him in sickness I thought absurd, but the old adage was fulfilled in my experience, for I found it to be true that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." After a week or more of intense mental suffering I asked my mother to pray for me, and I myself prayed to the best of my understanding, to be relieved from the awful suffering. My grandfather, a minister, was called, and prayed for me and read from the Bible. A few days later my mother sent for the kind pastor of the church of which I was then a member, and he also prayed for me. I did not get relief from suffering, yet I believe that through their prayers I was led to ask help from a Christian Scientist. Having an aunt who was a believer in Christian Science, I asked her if she thought I could be helped by it. She assured me that I could, and her talk inspired me with hope and led me to take treatment of a regular practitioner. I did so, and was healed of all my troubles, physical and mental, although it required patience on my part before all these were overcome. To prove that Christian Science has given me hope, health, happiness, and courage, I would like to say that since my healing I have taken a commercial course in one of the business colleges here, and have been able to fill successfully a position of trust in a bank for almost two years.
Christian Science has not only benefited me in a physical way, it has also been a wonderful help spiritually: it has given me a better understanding of the Bible and a desire to study and read it. For these and many other blessings, I am very thankful to God for sending His beloved son, Christ Jesus, to reveal the truth; and I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who has re-discovered and taught us the Christ-way of healing not only from sin, but from sickness, and has taught us to rely upon God in our health and in our sickness.
