Christian Science came to me at a time of deepest...
Christian Science came to me at a time of deepest need. I had had a long hospital experience, being in one five different times, for surgery and special treatment. I gradually grew worse, and physicians said another operation was the only thing that could give me any relief. This I would not submit to, as a former one had failed to help me. I had taken medicine almost constantly for years, was rarely ever without a tonic of some kind, but had even given that up as useless, and just at this time, when utterly discouraged and heartsick, a friend urged me to try Christian Science. I had no faith in it and was very much prejudiced against Mrs. Eddy, but I was finally induced to go to a practitioner. While I was taking treatments the practitioner lent me a copy of Science and Health, but I did not like to read it. This prejudice, which was due to ignorance, was soon broken down, and I was healed. This surely means a great deal to one who has spent years in suffering, but that is really the least of all it has done for me. It has made the Bible a new book and old things have passed away; a "new heaven and a new earth" are in their stead. I have had the great privilege of class instruction, and for several years have been in the Science work. During that time I have seen nearly every kind of ill healed through this understanding.
My testimony would not be complete if I did not express my love and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, and in her beautiful words in the Message of 1902 all may find the same sweet assurance which has helped me. "Our Father never destined mortals, who seek for a better country, to wander on the shores of time disappointed travelers, tossed to and fro by adverse circumstances, inevitably subject to sin, disease, and death. Divine Love waits and pleads to save mankind and waits with warrant and welcome, grace and glory, the earth weary and heavy laden who find and point the path to heaven."—Sue M. Jerome, Chicago, Ill.
