The Evidence Required

Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in Heaven." These words should be engraved upon the heart of every Christian Scientist, for Christian Science is a religion of good works, and its standing before the world must depend upon these works. That Christian Science is glorious with the saving grace of Christ must be made known to humanity, if humanity is to be saved, but this does not mean that we shall be heard of men in the market-place or from the housetops, but rather that we shall be about our Father's business at all times and under all circumstances, and that we shall depend more largely upon what we do than upon what we say, to prove that Christian Science is the religion of Jesus; that it is accomplishing the mighty works that he said should be done by them that believe. If we have truly partaken of Christ's cup we shall not fail to manifest the Spirit in all good words and works.

The cry of the world is for healing,—healing of its diseases, its sins, its sorrows, its unbelief; and the grateful "Whereas I was blind, now I see," is the only convincing testimony to the world that will reach mankind and awaken the hope of salvation, here and now.

The profound gratitude for the ministry of Mrs. Eddy which every beneficiary of her labors must feel, can best be manifested by walking in the footsteps of our Master, in healing the sick and reforming the sinner. No matter what our other interests may be, or what calls there may be upon our time, we should see that this is made paramount; for the one true test of our understanding of Christian Science lies in this practical application of Jesus' teachings in healing the sick. "By their fruits ye shall know them," was his test, and that he was consistent is shown by the fact that a large part of the four gospels is devoted to the story of his healing work.
