I became interested in Christian Science about five years...
I became interested in Christian Science about five years ago. It was through the effects which were produced upon friends and acquaintances that my attention was first drawn to this new teaching. That which produced such results seemed to me worthy of investigation. Having rejected other religions, I accepted this one cautiously, not to say reluctantly, and only in so far as it was proven to my entire satisfaction to be the truth. During the past five years I have had overwhelming proof of the power of this Science to heal and to correct all manifestations of error. It has also been my very great privilege to receive class instruction.
In my business, which is that of newspaper correspondent, Christian Science has done more for me than I can possibly tell. All that makes for success,—courage, judgment, sanity, strength,—is to be had in increasing measure by the daily application of this truth. Christian Science is as practical and as useful in every-day affairs as a knowledge of arithmetic; and as certain in the results of its application. It is the expression of a power which is always available, not a something for Sunday and for church, of which it is rather embarrassing to speak and for which apologies must be made. I cannot better express what Science has done for me in business than to say that I have found this to be true which is claimed for it in a reference to business men. Mrs. Eddy says, "Christian Science enhances their endurance and mental powers, enlarges their perception of character, gives them acuteness and comprehensiveness and an ability to exceed their ordinary business capacity. The human mind, imbued with this spiritual understanding, becomes more elastic, is capable of greater endurance, escapes somewhat from itself, and requires less repose. A knowledge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader and higher realms. It raises the thinker into his native air of insight and perspicacity" (Science and Health, p. 128). Christian Science does all these things.
