Removing Limitations
Through the study and practice of Christian Science we are enabled to remove, little by little, the sense of limitation which has in so many ways prevented us from realizing that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand" and that "now are we the Sons of God." We learn that God is All-in-all, that there is no limitation to His goodness and power, that we are made in His image and likeness and have dominion over all. How this understanding frees us and helps us to help others!
Without this understanding one is liable to have depressing sense of helplessness and limitation in the effort to relieve poverty, sickness, and distress. This sense of helplessness and limitation is due to belief in the reality of these seeming conditions,—the belief that they are God imposed. When men learn, through the teachings and demonstrations of Christian Science, that God is the only Creator, and that His creation is harmonious and perfect, they know that poverty, sin, sickness, and death, being discordant and imperfect, have no abiding-place in His creation, hence do not exist. They know that with God all things are possible, and in proportion to their ability to remove all sense of limitation they are instrumental in casting out these illusions, which hold their brothers and sisters in bondage, and thus enable them to enter into the "glorious liberty of the children of God."
If we feel a sense of limitation as to means, let us remember the promise of our Master: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." How many of us seek the kingdom of God so that all these (material) things may be added. We may not acknowledge or recognize it, but the underlying thought is there and needs to be uprooted and cast out. This can only be done by persistent denial of material selfhood. We must be absorbed in seeking the kingdom, not in looking for results.
