I have intended for some time to send in my testimony...

I have intended for some time to send in my testimony relative to my eyes, and I now submit it for the encouragement of those suffering from similar troubles.

At about the age of ten years I was severely injured about the head while playing around an old shipyard capstan on the coast of Maine, causing hemorrhages from the nose, eyes, ears, and mouth. This resulted in crossed eyes for a year or more, but they were afterwards straightened. Suffused and weak eyes followed, terminating some years after in such loss of sight, that I could not discern the mortar between the bricks of the building across the street, nor would I have been able to recognize my own brother at a short distance.

This finally led to severe headaches with very frequent darting pains almost beyond endurance. Finally the oculist, who was a professor, said, upon examination, "Eyes! I should say it was eyes!" and called his assistant to see their condition.
