Church Dedications

Newbury Weekly News

Newbury, Berkshire, England (Society).

Next Sunday will be a big day for Christian Science Society, Newbury, for they will be dedicating their church building in Newtown-road at an 11.15 a.m. service in which they are inviting the public to join them. The church has been in use for almost two years, but there is a rule which prevents the ceremony being held until the premises are clear of debt.

The first Christian Science readings in the district took place in a house at Wash Common in the winter of 1919. ... On May 15th, 1921, the first public Christian Science service was held in Newbury at a rented room in Market-street. From early 1923 to 1927, services were held in a small upper room in Bartholomew-street, but, the accommodation becoming inadequate, were transferred to the Plaza, and later, until the end of 1929, to the Oddfellows' Hall.
