WOULD YOU LIVE, THEN LOVE
Heaven is our home now in the degree we understand that only Love is Life, and that the one real universe, including all individual expressions of Life, is Love's manifestation. We really live only in the measure that we truly love—love God and love man.
But more than occasionally students of Christian Science consent to entertain toward their fellows critical attitudes, inward bitterness, unforgiving thoughts. Such states of mind are self-erected barriers to spiritual progress. They are without excuse. The one entertaining them is consenting to believe that the basic error, mortal mind, causes a material creation and peoples it with mortal personalities, one of whom is his brother mortal, whom he, another mortal, dislikes, criticizes, or condemns. He is substituting the thoughts of Belial for the Mind of Christ; and for what gain?
He is believing his brother to be what mortal mind and the material senses lyingly say he is, perhaps a mortal rival, or one capable of underhanded doings, or the sayer and doer of what is unkind, and in ways that sear and hurt. On this groundwork of wrong-mindedness evil builds resentment, a feud, a festering ferment, possibly held in check by the study of Christian Science, but too often willfully excused or condoned. And sometimes this individual lets his tongue be used to poison others' thoughts with the distorted views of his brother with which mortal mind has mesmerized him. In his blindness to the evil that is handling him he inoculates the minds of his fellows with the poison of criticism and ill will that would harm his brother and degrade himself.
