Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Great Falls, was dedicated on Sunday morning, November 24, 1946. This church edifice was started in 1928. It was completed and occupied in 1929." The dedication service was repeated in the evening.

History of the Christian Science movement in Great Falls dates from 1900, when a small group, organized as a Christian Science Society, met in Elks Hall on Central Avenue. By invitation a practitioner came to Great Falls, and on January 5, 1905, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Great Falls, was incorporated. Its first church service and Sunday School were held in the Conrad Block on Central Avenue and Fourth Street. A Reading Room also was established there. Later church services were moved to a lecture room in the Carnegie Library, Third Street and Second Avenue North, and continued there until 1911.

As it was apparent the church must be housed in an edifice of its own, a lot was purchased at 1101 First Avenue North, and a building erected, where the first service was held on November 30, 1911. This building was dedicated in 1914. The Reading Room was moved to the Ford Building.
