It is with a profound desire to...
It is with a profound desire to aid in bringing courage and comfort to the many who "hunger and thirst after righteousness" (Matt. 5:6) that I send this testimony of the healing efficacy and ever-availability of the truth taught in Christian Science. I have had the blessed privilege of its ministrations practically all my life, for my parents became interested in this new-old truth when I was a very young child. I experienced few of the so-called children's diseases, and all through my school career I was beautifully protected and guided, thus proving that Christian Science is preventive as well as curative, when properly applied.
A few years ago I was healed of a fractured elbow. This healing seems very outstanding to me in that medical laws were utterly nullified. I fell on a concrete walk in such a way that one of the bones was completely crushed. X rays were taken, and the physician who examined the pictures stated that it was the most unusual case he had ever seen, and that in such an accident nothing could be done medically. He emphatically affirmed that the arm would never regain its rotary motion. Loving help from a Christian Science practitioner was being given, and as each symptom appeared it was overcome. The arm was stiff for a few days, but inside of two weeks I was back at my post of duty without any evidence of anything having occurred. Today this arm is as free and supple as it ever was. During this experience I was constantly aware of the presence of divine law, which was operating in spite of the false claims of material belief.
At one time when I was a small child, I was with my father and mother in Concord, New Hampshire, when Mrs. Eddy passed us on her afternoon drive, I should like to quote a paragraph from a letter which my mother later wrote to our beloved Leader, and which was published in the Christian Science Sentinel (Vol. XI, p. 151) as follows: "After I had been studying Christian Science for some time I felt a great longing to see the author of Science and Health, as I thought that whoever could write such a book was entitled to the greatest respect and love. In the year 1902 this desire was gratified while I was visiting Concord, as in riding by you bowed to our little party. After you had gone by, this thought came to me: Mrs. Eddy is an inspiration in showing what one woman can do, but her work is not your work.... Now go home. Do not stand gazing at her personality, but follow her example, purify your own thoughts and walk in the path laid down in the Bible and Science and Health. This is the only way to earn the reward of the 'well done, good and faithful servant.' Humbly I returned home, and have been striving ever since to be obedient to God's commands by casting out the sick and sinful thoughts in myself and others."
