It is with a feeling of humility...

It is with a feeling of humility that I express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. I have been blessed countless times, and each blessing has added firmness to my conviction that this Science is the way in which the Master counseled us to walk.

One experience that stands out to me took place when we received our combat physicals. During the course of my examination, the doctor found a condition which he declared necessitated an operation as soon as possible. He seemed very certain of his diagnosis and he failed me in my examination, telling me I would be called in very soon for the operation. Fear, anger, and resentment clouded my thoughts, but I naturally turned to Christian Science, since it had healed me in the past. I telephoned a practitioner for help, and during the course of the next few days we worked, knowing the truth and continually denying error any power. Through her loving guidance, fear was dispelled, and anger and resentment were overcome.

About a week later I was called to sick bay for transfer to a hospital for the operation. I went in calmly, my mind on some simple spiritual truths. I paused before the doctor's office and steadfastly put from me all human will as to what I should say or what I thought the outcome should be. Finally I humbly turned to God and placed the problem in His hands.

As soon as I entered, the doctor looked me over quickly for a last check-up. I saw him hesitate, and a look of doubt came over his face. He checked me again and sat back in his chair with a thoughtful look on his face. He sat there thinking for some time. Then he called in his superior officer and asked him to examine me. This was done, and the officer's immediate and positive answer was, "It would be foolish to operate on this man." My heart sang for joy. I was O.K.'d and sent happily on my way.

Through this experience I gained much to help me along the straight and narrow way. I learned that human will has nothing whatsoever to do with healing and that one must unreservedly put his faith and trust in his heavenly Father.

I am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church, for our helpful periodicals, for the work that was done by the Christian Science Wartime Ministers, and for the Christian Science Service Centers. Daniel T. Bogart, Jr., Kenmore, New York.
