DISMISS IT!
To dismiss discomfort or disease with the authority born of spiritual understanding is possible for anyone who will accurately follow the teachings of Christian Science. The clear conviction of man's oneness with God enables the individual to heal any discordant condition or situation on the basis of the Master's injunction (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
In Christian Science, man is understood to be God's image and likeness. He is forever the manifestation and object of divine Love, governed by unchanging Principle. By claiming consistently man's God-bestowed qualities, we can, step by step, rule out of our experience anything that is unlike God, infinite good.
One Saturday morning a little five-year-old girl came downstairs with the appearance of measles. She was quite unaware of the manifestation and protested when her mother told her she would be staying in that day. In explanation she was turned toward a mirror. She gazed bewildered for a moment, then said firmly, "I know little girls don't have anything until God has it first." She did not look again at the error but went busily about her small affairs. By the middle of the afternoon there was not the slightest trace of this false belief. In claiming her freedom from it she had acted in obedience to the injunction in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 390): "Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin."
