I have had many healings...
I have had many healings through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science, for all of which I am deeply grateful. Some of these healings have been quick, whilst others have been rather slow, but I have learned that in every case my great need was to know God better, to more clearly understand divine Life, Love, and Truth. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 390), "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony."
Just after the first World War our little boy contracted some kind of skin trouble which was very irritating to him. Since it had never occurred to me that it might be considered contagious and there was little evidence of it on his hands or face, the child continued to attend school. However, one day he was sent home and told not to return until he was quite free. As I wanted to find out if it were right to allow him to play with other children, I took him to see a doctor, who called it a serious form of itch, and asked me if there were not others in the home who were suffering from the same trouble, as it was most contagious. He was surprised when he heard that no one else had any suggestion of it. When he proceeded to write out a prescription, I told him that we were students of Christian Science and that I had come to him only to learn whether or not the condition was considered contagious. He said that he had a great respect for Christian Science and that he believed it was doing much good, but that this was something which could not possibly be healed without the application of the germ-killing ointment for which he was writing the prescription.
When we left his office I asked the boy what we should do, whether he wanted to do as the doctor had said or to trust God, as he had always done. He said very definitely, "Oh, Mummy, we will trust God." I felt a deep love for Christian Science and gratitude that it was teaching me that God is the only creator, and that His child cannot for a moment be separated from the perfection of his true being as God's reflection. The boy himself helped greatly by declaring often that he was God's perfect child, and that as such he was without spot or blemish. In a few weeks' time he was entirely free and able to go back to school, and there was no return of the trouble.
