The first sentence in the Preface...
The first sentence in the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy reads (p vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Through studying the writings of our beloved Leader I have had innumerable blessings. Above all, Christian Science has brought about a complete change in my life by showing me where to find the treasures which "neither moth nor rust doth corrupt." It has brought me peace, joy, and happiness, and has shown me how I can be free, can become a "new man" and remain one.
I have been healed of what doctors called incurable sluggishness of the bowels. I have also been healed of a serious kidney trouble caused by a fall, of a broken bone in my foot, heart disease, and other complaints. Most of these ailments were healed through the study of Christian Science, as I gained a right understanding of God, without the help of a practitioner.
The trust which I have in our Father-Mother God I have gained through the writings of our beloved Leader. I thank God that through this Science my home, which is on the fourth floor, was saved when a bomb exploded just across the street from where I live.
More recently I had to struggle with main evils, both physical and mental, such as abscesses, irritation of the skin, constipation, anxiety, and an inability to think clearly. I could not remain alone, and could no longer work for myself. That was the darkest hour of my life, and f was forced to ask a practitioner for help, which was lovingly given. In a very short time, with this help, the troubles were overcome and I began to think clearly again.
I am grateful that I can again be happy and joyous; for through right thinking, through God, Life, Truth, and Love, we can overcome all evil. I am also grateful for our periodicals and for the fact that our Leader has provided for practitioners on whom we may call when we are in need. To our Father-Mother God, to Mrs. Eddy, and to the practitioner for the quick help and healing I received, I am sincerely thankful.—(Mrs.) Anne Clever, Berlin-Neukölln, Germany.
