Reflecting Love

In the Bible we are told that "God is love." Likewise, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, uses the word "Love" interchangeably with other names for God. Students of Christian Science are finding that through study and practice they can, with some measure of proof, say with Paul, "I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God." On page 304 of our textbook, Mrs. Eddy has written, "This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object."

Our Leader has revealed in this age that God, Love, is the Father-Mother of man, and that man is the reflection or expression of God. It is impossible for man to be less than perfect, less than the harmoniously complete idea, or son, of the changeless Father-Mother God. We know these positive statements are true, but it is only as we prove them step by step that peace, joy, health, and harmony are demonstrated in our individual experience.

Jesus' understanding of God as Love gave him dominion over every adverse circumstance which confronted him, enabling him to demonstrate the truths he taught. Victory will be realized in our experience as we follow his example and work out each problem lovingly and correctly, as he did. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 454), "Love for God and man is the true incentive in both healing and teaching."
