Mastering Our Difficulties

[Written Especially for Young People]

A young woman was sitting in a vacant auditorium watching repair men at work. She had noticed a long, straight piece of pipe on the floor and wondered what use would be made of it. Presently a man, carrying a metal pole with a curved attachment at one end, approached. He slipped the device under the pipe, upon which he set one foot, and gave a strong pull on the pole, using it as a lever. Immediately the pipe bent at right angles. The workman picked it up and fitted it into a corner of the room.

The onlooker was impressed, for the pipe had looked so uncompromisingly straight and inflexible. Yet the man who possessed the necessary tool and knowledge had unhurriedly and confidently adjusted it to the purpose required.

Frequently the problems which confront us seem insoluble and the difficulties insuperable. Yet Christ Jesus many years ago demonstrated that inharmony, including sin, disease, and death, is never real, and may be overcome. He said to his disciples. "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This statement was confirmed by Mary Baker Eddy. Her writings, based as they are upon the Bible, furnish us with the rules by which we may overcome inharmonious conditions.
