I have long wanted to give this testimony to express the debt of gratitude I owe to Christian Science for the manifold blessings which have come to me through its beautiful teachings. Through the understanding of Truth's omnipotent power and the comprehension that there is only one Mind, God, I have had many beautiful healings. I had suffered for many years from chronic costiveness, from which medical remedies had failed to free me.
I had had four operations and suffered from intestinal adhesions. The physician told me that there was no certainty of my ever being freed from them. Following an operation for gallstones, more adhesions formed, and the physician stated that it would be necessary to operate again. After my four previous experiences, I felt quite quite discouraged.
Friends who were Christian Scientists occasionally gave me Science literature to read. Finally I awakened to the fact that I, too, could be healed. I then began to read the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and to attend church meetings regularly, and also Christian Science lectures. After a while I wrote to a practitioner for help, and in three days I was healed of the costiveness. When I took up the study of Christian Science there were so many things to overcome that I do not know when the adhensions left. They simply disappeared.
In addition to these healings, I have been healed of severe headaches, neuritis, articular rheumatism, indigestion, hay fever, sinus infection, and inflammation of the eyes, which had been very painful at times, and had caused me a great deal of inconvenience ever since I was a little girl. Some of these healings were slow, and it was necessary for me to ask for help from practitioners.
I also want to express my gratitude for the wonderful protection which we experienced during a tornado that swept down upon us in the middle of the night. It did a great deal of damage to the ranch in general. It tore a large garage from a cement foundation, smashed it in pieces, and scattered it in every direction, but there was no harm done to any of the three cars which were inside, nor to a large heater, except that the stove pipes were blown away and the fire was out. The heater had been filled with sufficient coal to last all night. It was indeed a wonderful protection that no fire started, for the wind blew hard all night long. During this terrible storm I was not at all fearful. I prayed to God for protection, and I knew that He was near, even though it seemed that the house would at any moment be blown away. The "still small voice" had spoken, and I fell asleep in the midst of the storm.
An Irish setter, which was always shut up in the garage at night, was also safe and happy. Every creature had been cared for; not one had been injured.
My greatest desire is to become more obedient each day to the teachings of Christian Science given to us by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to serve my fellow beings in the way of Jesus' appointing.
In addition to the many healings and protection, I am very grateful for Christian Science and for all the institutional activities; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for The Christian Science Board of Directors, for the lectures with their messages of love and peace to all who are ready to receive; for The Christian Science Publishing Society, and all of the periodicals; and for the loving practitioners who have given me aid.
