About seven years ago I was suffering from tuberculosis...

About seven years ago I was suffering from tuberculosis of the bowels and other organs, and although a specialist had performed a very clever and intricate operation, he gave me no hope of healing. This was the second operation I had undergone for this condition.

For a year after the second operation, which kept me in bed for five months, I suffered almost continuously with a succession of abscesses and a wound which refused to heal. In addition, I was most miserable mentally, for this illness had cut short a promising stage career. At this point my sister sent me from America a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She wrote, "I think your need is greater than mine; this book may help you." That day was a turning point in my life. I devoured the contents of the textbook, and very soon found a Christian Science church. My mother took me to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and what I heard there made my heart sing with joy. My mother, too, had glimpsed the truth, and she loyally stood by me when, to the horror of the rest of the family, I threw away all my medicine, dispensed with sunray treatment and dieting, and put myself entirely in God's care. Within three months I was healed, free, and rejoicing. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for this wonderful proof that God is omnipotent. I have had many proofs of God's healing power since then, but the joy of that first deliverance has never left me, and has often helped me in times of stress.

Christian Science has regenerated me mentally, physically, and morally. It is opening a new world to me through the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings.
