Christian Science has been to me the "pearl of great...
Christian Science has been to me the "pearl of great price" for many years. It has met my every need, and one of the happiest proofs of its efficacy that I have had came about five years ago, in the midst of seeming depression.
Business was practically at a standstill in our town, and the business of the store in which I had worked for some eighteen years had reached a very low ebb. One day the owner of the store came to me and said that he had become very much discouraged and was going to sell the store within two weeks. After I had searched vainly for work, to buy the store seemed the only alternative; but I had no money with which to buy it, and the banks were not lending money on business property at that time, unless the proposition was very sound.
We had always attended church very regularly and given our support in every way possible, and when work on the new Publishing House began, we decided to give a certain amount to the Building Fund every week. When the time came for the next contribution for the Publishing House, the suggestion that it would be foolhardy to contribute when I should be out of work in two weeks, came to me. At that moment the truth dawned in my consciousness that error cared nothing at all for me or mine, but would stop the work of building the new Publishing House, which is sending good into all the world to break the dream of sin, disease, lack, and fear. Therefore I knew that I could have my part in the work, and that my supply was from God. So I gave even more than usual out of gratitude for this freedom of thought which I felt.
